Having both grown up in large close-knit families, we know firsthand the important of families and sibling relationships. We want to adopt because we would love to have another child in our family and we know that Ari would be a great big brother. Ari keeps reminding us that he is looking forward to having a brother or sister to play with and will make sure he shares his toys including his favorite teddy bear Beckett “if the baby needs him to fall asleep”. Growing our family has been filled with many challenges the last seven years. Open adoption fulfills our dreams to parent another child. We are hopeful to establish a relationship where we all feel comfortable and can learn all about you your hopes and dreams. We are committed to creating an open adoption relationship so that our child will always know his or her story.
Every day is an adventure in our house. We live on the north side of Chicago in a neighborhood with lots of families with young kids. Although the search was long, we finally found the perfect home for us on a tree-lined street with lots of beautiful homes. John wakes up early to go to his job at a large bank in downtown bank, Nancy spends lots of fun filled days with Ari. She truly cherishes the time she spends with him and loves watching him grow up and experiencing all those first moments.
Music has always been a big part of our lives bringing joy to our family. Music has been important to both of us from as early as we can remember and we even had a rock band before Ari was born. John plays guitar and Nancy plays drums and piano. Our band had a couple of names through the years one being Chromebaby and the other Wailing Angels. Our music was influenced by Nirvana, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and U2 and we played many live shows. Although we no longer play shows with our band, our love of music still remains. We listen to many different types of music and if you came over to our house you would hear all types of music from rock to blues to jazz and classical. We remember our band days fondly not just for the music but how my relationship with John developed into a life long partnership as husband and wife. Ari listens to all the music that we play at our home and he even tries to play all our instruments. Sometimes Ari’s friends and cousins come over and they have a great time playing the instruments like they are in their own band. Ari has a wide range of favorite songs that include Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, The Thomas the Train Theme and every song by the Red Hot Chili Peppers!
Ari is a good natured child with a big personality and imagination. He loves trains so we often take a walk to the “El” or Metra tracks and watch the trains coming and going. Ari also loves shopping trips and riding in the cart at Target. He checks out the cars and trains in the toy aisle and knows every one of them. When he is good he even gets to take one home. On most days, our living room turns into Ari’s personal rail yard and he can recite each and every car by name with his favorite being the Cadillac Escalade. Everyday we try and go outside so he can run around and play with all the young kids on the block. It is not uncommon to see bikes, tricycles and many, many kids running up and down the street. There is also a park a block away that Ari really enjoys. There is a great public school a few blocks away from our home and also a private school. Although we live in the city, our neighborhood is very much a tight community where everyone knows each other and helps each other out.
We enjoy traveling and experiencing the world. We have traveled to such exciting destinations as Italy, Germany, France, the Carribean Islands and Hawaii. We enjoy learning about new cultures, trying new foods, experiencing other customs as well as laying on a beautiful beach. Ari also looks forward to our family trips although since his arrival we tend to travel closer to home. We cannot wait to plan our next trip with the child that joins our family.
While learning about new places is great our most favorite thing to do is spend time together at home. You will often find us in the kitchen making something delicious and fun. We love to cook, barbeque and bake. Ari especially loves when we bake and can’t wait to put the frosting on cakes which has to be chocolate. Some of our best times are spent in the kitchen, where we can bond and come together as a family.
Our extended families are very close and we are lucky enough to see them a few times a week. Nancy is very close to her sister who lives in Park Ridge. Once or twice a week Ari and Nancy go to her house for lunch and then out for an activity. The other days Ari and Nancyspend visiting at John’s mom and sister’s house. John is from a large Greek family. Ari’s favorite part of visiting his Yia Yia is eating some of her delicious Greek food and cookies that she makes especially for him. Sometimes we eat in their yard that is filled with flowers. All of our family loves Ari and are doubly excited about the arrival of our next child into our family.
Creativity and expression are very encouraged in our home. We think everybody should have the chance to be who they want to be and not be afraid to try something new or different. When we were younger we were different from our friends because we were very into our music and our band. We dressed the way we wanted and stood out from the crowd. We were encouraged by our family to be ourselves and find something that we loved to do and do it as best as we can. That is what we want for our children.
As parents we are deeply committed to making sure that Ari and the child that joins our family through adoption feels free to be who they are meant to be and they would grow up to be happy in themselves. We want our adoptive child to know his or her story and feel confident that they have all the support necessary to reach their dreams and potential.
Thank you for taking the time to learn about us. We look forward to learning more about you.
