After a few years of fun dates, moving in together, vacationing in Hawaii and regular visits to the dog parks with our 2 canine companions, Matt surprised Wendy on her 30th birthday with a diamond ring. In front of 100 students and dozens of colleagues, Wendy said yes through tear-filled eyes. We got married that same year in Fall, our favorite season of all!
Knowing we both wanted kids, we were eager to start a family. After not having any success getting pregnant and then learning that even with medical help our chances were slim, we decided to look into adoption. We found The Cradle and embraced the idea of Open Adoption and its child-centered focus. We love the emphasis on education and support, and we welcome the flexibility of building an evolving open relationship with birth parents.
We currently have 2 dogs, a tawny lab mix, Bauer, and a stout brindle boxer, Motley. Our dogs bring us a lot of joy and are a huge part of our family life. The boys just love to hang out with us at home and in the yard, and especially love trips in the car, no matter how short!
Matt has 6 siblings and Wendy has 3, so family has always been at the forefront of our lives. We enjoy spending a lot of time with our families, and we’re always finding something fun to do! We love to host sleepover weekends with the nephews, get lost in the World’s largest corn maze with our parents, brave the cold in search of the best Christmas tree at the tree farm, and have pool parties at Matt’s sister’s house in the heat of the summer. Our get togethers with our families, whether big or small, formal or informal, always brings out the laughter and the good times! We all look forward to having a baby to include in all our gatherings.
We both love what we do for a living. Matt is a union pipefitter and Wendy is a first grade teacher. Since most people don’t know what a pipefitter is, we’ll tell you that it’s anything with piping outside of plumbing. Matt has pipefit everywhere from hospitals to oil refineries to water parks. Some jobs are more glamorous than others! Wendy’s job is more self-explanatory. She has taught 2nd and 3rd grade, but her heart is with the little ones in first grade.
Since we have flexibility in our jobs, Wendy will be a stay-at-home mom during the summer months, and Matt will be a stay-at-home dad during the school year. We’re both really looking forward to all that being parents will bring!
Thanks for taking some time to get to know a little about us. We wish you all the best in the decisions you have ahead of you.
