We are Brad and Nancy. In the 16 years that we have been together (married for 14 years) we have found many common interests that have taken us on adventures. Our dream adventure is to build a family together. We just didn’t realize the path to get there would be such a unique experience. After spending some years working with doctors, we realized God had other plans: our family was going to grow through adoption.
Brad grew up on a 100 acre dairy farm where his parents still milk today. He learned a lot about responsibility. Brad works for Mooseheart Child City and School as a farm labor/parks and grounds keeper. He is 4-H leader for Mooseheart having to take care of the beef, sheep, and hogs when they got to the local fairs. He has been employed there for 14 years. He has 1sister and 2 brothers, all married, as well as 3 nieces and 4 nephews. In his spare time, he bales hay for local farmers from our custom baling business and baling hay on our rented hay ground to sell so Nancy can continue to be a stay-at-home Mom. His hobbies include: biking on the bike path right across the street from our house, anything that has to do with farming, baling hay, driving our John Deere and Case tractors, fishing, hiking on vacation, going to auctions. Did we mention anything that has to do with farming? Brad has a great love for the land, outdoors, and farm animals.
Nancy grew up on an 80 acre beef farm with cattle, chickens, pigs, turkeys, cats, dogs, and plenty of corn and hay. Her parents still live on the farm and her dad hobby farms in his retirement. Nancy is a stay-at-home Mom with a full time job of caring for our very active 2 year old son. She has been home with Travis since his adoption from the Cradle 2 years ago. She has the greatest satisfaction with seeing that great big smile come across his face when Travis is happy. There is no better job in the world than the job of parenthood. She has 2 sisters, and 1 brother, and had 2 brothers pass away as infants. Her oldest sister is married with 3 children. In her spare time, she helps Brad do the billing the baling business, and helps with the rented hay ground. Her hobbies include: biking or going for a walk on the bike path right across the street from our house, cooking, baking, gardening (flowers), mowing the lawn, animals, reading, hiking on vacation, and anything that has to do with being outside or on the farm.
Travis is a very active 2 years old. He loves to run, jump, climb, use his Dad as a human jungle gym, ride his bike, anything that has to do with being outside. He is your typical 2 year old with a fantastic sense of humor and a very good appetite. Some days he can eat us out of house and home. He loves to play on the swing set, go down the slide, go for rides in Dad’s pickup truck and just hang out with Dad. He was 8 days old when we brought him home from the Cradle and jumped right into our hearts immediately. He is so much fun and as we always say “he’s awesome”. We could never imagine life without him and don’t remember what it was like before him. He is such a joy to us and not a day goes by that we don’t laugh hysterically because of him. To see life through the eyes of a child is amazing. He is absolutely amazing and will forever hold a very big part of our hearts.
We have a fantastic relationship with his birth mom, Annemarie, and birth father, Mike, and speak with them about once a month. We see them every couple of months and take many, many, many pictures of Travis to give to them. They are incredible people themselves and we can see where Travis’s personality comes from. We adore them both and support them fully throughout their lives.
We live on an acre lot in a small farming town on the North edge of town. We have farm fields on two sides of us. We have a bike path across the street from us and parks and a library within a 15 minute driving distance. We have a huge fenced in backyard with lots of room for our 2 Blue Heeler/Border Collie dogs to run and play. They adore people, especially Travis, they are very protective of him and our Nieces and Nephews. They have been raised around people their entire lives. They love to go for rides in the car, also.
We are very close to our families and see them often. All of Brad’s family lives within a 30 minute drive. All of Nancy’s family lives within a 45 minute drive. We celebrate birthdays, holidays, and get together for no reason at all. We spend time with both families on all the holidays and have a Mother’s Day cookout at our house every year. We have 10 nieces and nephews, and the family keeps growing every year. Our families are very much in support of our adoption efforts and are excited as we are to welcome a new baby into our lives.
Both of us we raised in loving Christian homes, with good moral values. We were given praise for our accomplishments and we were taught we can achieve or dreams. We want nothing more than to provide a stable, secure, and fun environment for our children. Birthday parties with family and friends, bike rides on the bike path, trips to Grandpa and Grandma’s farm(s), and chocolate chip cookies fresh from the oven after school….these are the memories we want our children to remember about their childhood.
We hope that you get a feel for the love that we share as a family. We would treasure the opportunity to learn more about your hopes and dreams and your ideas regarding open relationship. We know that you will eventually find the right match for you and your baby and pray that you will find peace. Please feel free to contact us at The Cradle’s Toll Free Number (800) 272-3534.
