Ethiopia Adoption
Adopt from Ethiopia
(Last updated 01/11)
The Children
Thousands of Ethiopian children are living in institutions because their parents can no longer care for them. Many are orphaned due to poverty, war, famine, or illness. Illnesses that take the lives of Ethiopian children include but are not limited to HIV/AIDS. Maternal mortality is also very high in Ethiopia. It is estimated that 1 in 14 women will die in childbirth.
All children will be tested for HIV, Hep B and other basic illnesses before being matched for adoption. Families will receive test results, basic medical information and some family background information, if available.
Infants through school age children are available as well as sibling groups. The children are cared for in orphanages or hospitals prior to being matched with an adoptive family.
Placement Resources
You can learn more about adoptions from Ethiopia from an agency with a placement program in that country. Here are a few to consider: Families Thru International Adoption, Wide Horizons for Children, Holt International and Children's Home Society of Minnesota
