Jessica Tells Her Adoption Story

When I first found out I was pregnant, it was terrifying, you know, I ignored it, I went on pretending it wasn’t happening, but I was terrified. I had just been kicked out of my house, was living with my boyfriend, was, you know, working a small job, still trying to go to college with, just finished a season of volleyball.
We decided to go with adoption when we were turned down for an abortion that I was too far along. So the first thing I did was get home that day and start searching about adoption. I found a few different families that I wanted to contact but one in particular stood out to me. Their picture not only screamed to me that they were the right ones but their profile had everything we were looking for from a marriage that’s been going on for a long time to a stay-at-home mom to a dad that, you know, had a good, solid career.
And at first we found it kind of awkward that we had this stranger coming in to talk to us, but the best part every time that she left, it created such conversation between me and my boyfriend that we got things covered and things out that we needed to talk about.
Life now is incredibly different. We actually keep good contact with the adoptive family. We actually got back from a visit which we have to plan in the winter because now my husband and I are business owners.
For anybody who just finds out that they’re pregnant, the most important thing is that you’re not alone and that there’s a lot of people that have gone through and are going through what you’re going through, and to take some time, accept what’s happened, and start looking at your options. The best part about contacting an adoption agency such as the Cradle is that it’s no pressure. They’re there to educate you on all of your decisions and they’re there to talk to you if you want to talk, but if you need some time they’ll give you that time. It’s all about the child and what’s best for the child and if you don’t have the means or the ability to raise the child, open adoption is definitely a good choice.
