Share Identifying Information: Registries
If you are interested in sharing more specific information with birth relatives and potentially making contact, the Mutual Consent Registry is your first step. Mutual Consent Registries are ways in which birth parents and adopted persons can share identifying information. Matches may be made if both parties have signed the registry.
The Cradle’s Mutual Consent Registry
The Cradle maintains and operates a Mutual Consent Registry that has been in existence since 1985, when first permitted by law. Signing the forms for The Cradle’s Mutual Consent Registry gives The Cradle permission to release identifying information about you, in a manner you specify, to your birth relative(s)who have signed the registry. Once forms are submitted for The Cradle's Registry, they remain on record indefinitely. If there is a match, The Cradle will contact each person using the last known contact information and assist in exchanging information and facilitating communication based on pre-authorization. It is important for the Registry participants to keep The Cradle updated on any changes to your name or contact information. Get Started
The Illinois Adoption Registry and Medical Information Exchange (IARMIE)
The State of Illinois has a registry independent of The Cradle's Registry. We recommend that clients participate in both registries to maximize the chances of making a match. The Illinois Adoption Registry was created in 1985 as a means for individuals involved in an Illinois adoption to share information and locate others involved in the adoption. Signing the forms for the Illinois Adoption Registry gives the state of Illinois permission to release identifying information about you, in a manner you specify, to your birth relative(s)also on the Registry.
Over the years legislative changes have been made to the Illinois Adoption Registry, expanding and enhancing it; Please be aware that it may continue to change as laws change in the future. To learn if you are eligible for the Illinois Adoption Registry and to access forms, visit the website www.idph.state.il.us or call 877-323-5299 (toll-free) or (217) 557-5159.
International Soundex Registry
This is an international registry independent of both The Cradle and Illinois Registries. Visit the website for more information
