Guest Speaker: Judy Stigger, LCSW, Adoption Therapist and Director of Professional Relations for Adoption Learning Partners
All children consider who they are, where they are, how they got there and what they might become. For adopted children the story may be a bit more complex. They have additional pieces to put together, some extra threads to weave. Children with a realistic understanding of how adoption shapes or does not shape their identity are more equipped to face future challenges. Parents who are armed with an understanding of the stages of identity formation can help their children feel comfortable with their adoption story and who they are. They are then better equiped to offer support and guidance to their child. This workshop will offer advice on:
- Helping children continually update and maintain comfort with their adoption story
- Discussing all parts of your child's adoption story, painful and joyful
- Addressing adoption in a way that encourages your child to talk about his questions and concerns
2 hours of DCFS Foster Care Training/Hague Compliant
