On the afternoon of Saturday, January 10th, thirty-eight Cradle families braved the snowy roads to gather at LaMirage in Rolling Meadows to celebrate the Russian holiday season. Eight of these families are still awaiting their child from Russia, but enjoyed watching the kids play games, craft Matrushka ornaments and Russian flags, and dance to the lively balalaika and accordion music of the Chicago Cossacks. Guests also enjoyed a scrumptious Russian buffet that included Siberian palmenis, smoked salmon, beef stroganoff and sweet cheese blinis. Grandfather Frost, in his flowing blue gown, paid a surprise visit and gave each child a personally selected children’s book to take home. The wintry landscape outside the restaurant made it feel like a true Russian holiday. We hope you’ll join us next year for a little taste of Russia!
