Hello, we are Nick and Melesa and we could not be more excited about becoming parents through adoption! We wish you all the best on your journey and appreciate you taking the time to consider our profile. We hope these pages give you a glimpse into the life, love and laughter we will share with our children.

Who Are We…

We are Nick and Melesa and met 17 years ago! We have been inseparable ever since. Our lives have been, to the say the least, fun, challenging and exciting. We both grew up in Minnesota, and have lived in Boston and New York City before returning to the Midwest and settling in a diverse neighborhood of Chicago.  We are an active couple and love running, golfing, exploring the city, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. We also love animals and currently are parents to Mack, our 5 year old Great Dane/Mastiff rescue. Our friends and family are very supportive of our adoption journey and are just as excited about welcoming a new member to our family as we are!

About Melesa…

I grew up on a small farm in Minnesota (we had chickens, rabbits, ducks and horses) and therefore have always been a bit of a tomboy. I have 1 brother and 2 sisters and we are all very tight knit! I talk with each sibling and parent several times a week. I also have numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents and my favorite nephew “Ki” (he’s actually my only nephew but he’s still my favorite). I love sports and being active, including, running, golfing, attempting to ski, and camping. Traveling, however, is my favorite hobby! Whether it’s just quick weekend trips to see family or friends or longer excursions across the globe, I cannot wait to see the world through our children’s eyes as we travel with them and explore the world with them.

About Nick…

I am an only child and come from a small extended family with only a handful of aunts, uncles and cousins. It was a great adjustment to marry into Melesa’s larger louder, crazier family!  Growing up, my family was adamant sports fans. I have been a diehard Cubs and Green Bay Packers fan since I was a baby! As a kid I was very active and played hockey and soccer competitively until college. I can’t wait to play sports and watch sports with my kids as my parents did with me. I also enjoy cooking, traveling and spending time with family and friends.

Our Home...

We live in a very family/child oriented neighborhood of Chicago. Our home is very spacious with lots of room to play and a park right down the street! We are fortunate to live in a bustling, diverse neighborhood with several multi-racial family neighbors. We have access to parks, playgrounds, museums, zoos and beaches which each have a lot of activities for kids. Additionally, our neighborhood has some of the best schools in the city!

Views on Adoption and Openness …

We chose The Cradle because we like the idea of an open adoption. Building an open relationship with you and your family is important to us. We want our child to always know their history and where they came from. If this is something you are receptive to, we would be happy to send you pictures and letters of your child for as long as you wish, and we would also be open to visits to spend time together. We understand that you may want less open adoption, and we respect your wishes and privacy. We will be here and support you either way.

Child Care Plans…

We are so excited to become parents that we plan to spend as much time as possible with our child. Melesa has a wonderful maternity leave policy which allows her to take six months off work when we bring our child home. Nick also has a very flexible job which will allow him to work from home during the first few months to spend time and care for the child. Afterwards, Melesa will work part-time and we will use family and an in-home nanny to care for our child.

We are thrilled to welcome a child of any gender or race into our lives! Our home is open and loving of all races and cultures. Some of the ways we are prepared to teach our future children about their heritage are: reading books about transracial adoption and our child’s culture, celebrating holidays/traditions that are part of our child’s heritage, and ensuring our child is exposed on a regular basis to diversity, people of his or her race or ethnicity, including ensuring our child attends diverse schools in our community.

We can’t thank you enough for taking the time to learn about us and our lives. We are truly excited about expanding our family through open adoption and cannot wait to become parents. Please ask to see our profile book to learn more about us and our family.
