We’re David & Vanessa, parents of three amazing boys (Nicholas, John & Mark) and one darling girl (Mary) … we are thrilled to continue building our family through adoption. Thank you for getting to know us. We have always loved the dynamic of a large family & we’ve wanted a large family all along - that is why we’re hoping to adopt again - not because we are trying for a certain number of children! We truly believe that the greatest gift we can give our children is another sibling (and they ask all the time when we get to have another brother or sister!). It is our greatest privilege and responsibility to raise our family in a way that promotes traditional family values – love of God, respect for each other, generosity and self-sacrifice.

We’re both from the suburbs of Chicago and met in high school. We began dating years later and we were married in 2002! Our family life revolves around doing things together. We love to travel, be outdoors and live an active lifestyle. We enjoy camping in the great outdoors, but we also love a tropical beach vacation and we travel about every other year to the Cayman Islands. We also enjoy relaxing at home. One of the most important things we can do as a family is to eat dinner together. Vanessa LOVES to cook and enjoys spending time in the kitchen preparing healthy, homemade meals “with love.” All of the children enjoy helping mom in the kitchen and often take an active role in meal preparation!

From Vanessa:

I love being a stay-at-home mom and wouldn’t give up this life for a return to my old career in accounting. David is so supportive of my being home, and he’s so helpful with the daily routine when he’s not on shift. It’s fun to have him around so much, and the children just ADORE him! He’s teaching them all valuable skills, such as hard work, the proper use of tools, and respect for their family.

From David:

I love being a dad and I will always be very involved with my kids, whether wrestling in the living room, playing football in the front yard, doing yard work, reading books with them, shoveling snow, teaching them a “lesson of the day,”-- the children are always fun to be with. I’ve been working for the past 18 years as a career firefighter / paramedic and I love my job as a public servant. While I do work for 24 hours when I’m on shift, I’m home when many other dads are not. As the children get older, I look forward to participating in field trips and other activities that a typical 9-5 schedule wouldn’t allow for.

Why we Chose Adoption:

Since we always thought we’d have a large family, it was difficult to learn that we’d never be able to conceive a child. While we grieved for several years, we always knew that God was in control and had a perfect plan for our family. This plan was adoption.

We adopted Nicholas (2008), John (2010), Mark (2012), and Mary (2014) all through The Cradle. These life-changing times were VERY exciting and our families were waiting at our home to help us welcome our children! We enjoy open adoption relationships with the birth families. Each relationship is different, but we are so glad we’re in touch regularly. The children understand their adoption stories, in an age-appropriate way and it has been gratifying to see their understanding of adoption change. We are very open with them about their stories and they are beginning to understand why these people are such an important part of our lives!

Our View of Parenting:

We believe that while quality time with children is important, the quantity of time parents spend with their children is equally important – if not more so. In fact, this is one reason we feel so strongly that Vanessa be a stay-at-home mom. We spend valuable time with our children every day: reading books with them, praying together, playing at the park, visiting with family, cooking with them, and most importantly, teaching them to love God, His Church and to honor their family. Along with many other virtues, we are raising our children to be respectful, honest, disciplined, hardworking, and generous.

Thinking of you & praying for you as you make a very difficult decision.

“He planned, in his purpose of love, that we should be adopted as his own children through Jesus Christ.” Ephesians 1:5
