Episode III of the Annual Walk for Adoption Chicago was a Success
The force was strong with The Cradle at this year's Walk for Adoption. Over 150 Cradle friends and family (our biggest Cradle Crew yet!) gathered at Lake Arlington to raise awareness for adoption in the Chicago area, as well as to help raise funds for The Cradle's Center for Lifelong Adoption Support.
Though this was the third year The Cradle organized a team, the Walk for Adoption has been running for eight years, with each year bigger than the last. This year there were 450 attendees in total enjoying the beautiful weather and a fun, 2.4 mile walk around the lake—all in the name of adoption.
Walk for Adoption 2018 was especially exciting for the younger Crew members: Arlington Heights Park District recently renovated the park at Lake Arlington, giving the kids a whole new playground area to explore. The renovations even included a new sensory garden, which kids and adults alike enjoyed.
This year, the walk's slogan was "The Adoption Force Will Be With You. Always," and walkers tried to stick with the theme, whether they wore the "Cradle Crew Episode III" t-shirt or something a little more creative. (A tiny Chewbacca was quite a hit.) In keeping with the theme, the walk featured two new and impressive attendees. Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia greeted walkers at the end of participants' trek around the lake. Of course, there were still traditional Walk favorites, from the raffle, to the bounce house to the many, many kids activities.
As in every year, the event was so successful due to its ability to bring adoptive families together. Members of the Cradle Crew enjoyed making connections and getting to know one another, whether they were adoptees, adoptive parents, birth parents or simply friends and supporters of The Cradle. The Walk was also a great opportunity to meet and connect with other members of the adoption community here in Chicago.
The Cradle would like to thank everyone who supported the Cradle Crew this year. We raised a over $500 for the Center for Lifelong Adoption Support! We can't wait for next year!
