Theraplay® Workshop for Foster/Adoptive Parents
Do you and your child struggle to connect at times? Does your child’s behavior seem more difficult to manage than most?
Secure attachment is essential for healthy child development, but a foster or adopted child’s past may be affecting their behaviors, and consequently having an impact on your connection with your child.
Adoption therapist Mandy Jones, LCSW, JD will lead this interactive workshop and teach basic Theraplay® activities to connect and engage with your children, as well as help them to regulate behaviors.
During this two-part workshop, you will be better prepared to:
- learn strategies for remaining connected with your teen
- help your child feel comfortable accepting guidance and leadership
- communicate without resorting to rewards and threats
- enhance your child's self-esteem and sense of well-being
- bring joy, laughter, and fun back into the family
- foster a lasting connection between you and your child
Learn how to better understand your child while managing challenges that are unique to your own foster or adoptive family.
This workshop is for parents of children from infancy to adolescence.
Two DCFS training credits, covering the attachment curriculum, are available for this workshop. Please identify if you will be seeking credit.
