Event Details

Parenting after adoption brings new questions, new conversations and new challenges as children grow. Supporting Your Adopted Child: A Parenting Toolkit is a free, interactive event designed to equip adoptive families with practical tools, insight and community — no matter where you are in your parenting journey.

This free event is open to all adoptive families with children ages 0–17. Whether you’re parenting a toddler, school-aged child or teen, this event is designed to help you feel more prepared, supported and connected now and for the road ahead. Parents will learn practical tools for navigating behaviors, development, adoption conversations and identity — plus specialized guidance for transracial and BIPOC families.

This event is for parents. No childcare will be provided. Limited to 50 participants.

This event features a presentation from two respected adoption professionals from The Cradle and Pact, An Adoption Alliance.

  • Carmen Knight, Community Engagement Specialist (The Cradle), will share practical tips and tools for supporting adopted children as they grow, addressing common behaviors, developmental shifts and adoption-related questions that often emerge over time. Carmen has decades of experience supporting families as an adoptive parent counselor and educator, hosting workshops for professionals, families and communities, equipping them with the skills to help children thrive and navigate adoption-related challenges.
  • Beth Hall, Director of Development (Pact), will focus on supporting transracial and BIPOC adoptive families, with special attention to identity development at the intersection of race and adoption, as well as the lifelong tasks for adoptees and their caregivers. Author of “Inside Transracial Adoption” and a nationally recognized adoption educator and advocate for adopted children of color, she co-founded Pact and served as Executive Director from 1991 to 2025.

Following the presentation, families will break into small, facilitated discussion groups led by adoption professionals. These conversations offer space to ask questions, share concerns and learn from others navigating similar experiences. Families will also have a chance to connect informally with one another. Light refreshments will be provided.
