The Cradle offers free, non-judgmental and confidential support to women experiencing an unplanned pregnancy, providing information and support to empower women to make the decision they feel is best for themselves and their families. Our compassionate counselors help expectant parents explore all of their options, recognizing that everyone’s situation is different. This might include the option to parent—understanding what resources might be available to assist in ongoing parenting—as well as adoption or other options.

It doesn’t matter how far along you are—it’s never too early or too late to reach out to us. You don’t have to navigate this alone. When you’re ready, we can set up a time for you to meet with one of our counselors, at a place convenient to you.

Options Counseling

The Cradle recognizes that everyone's situation is different. Your counselor will be there to help you weigh all of your options and can meet with you at a location of your choosing. Contact us to set up an appointment with one of our counselors.

You have several options. Among two we may discuss are:

Parenting | Adoption

We can help you consider parenting your child and explore resources or make referrals to resources that can assist in your parenting. To start, we've curated some expectant parent resources to get your started.

As you think about parenting your child, we can help you make plans for changes to:

● Your daily schedule and child care needs

● Your budget, including housing, living expenses/bills, baby supplies, transportation, child care, etc.

● Health care and medical insurance

● Supportive people (family, friends, professionals) – identify who those people are for you, and talk with them about the kinds of help you can expect from them

We are here to help you learn more about adoption if you are interested in exploring an adoption plan for your child. Licensed adoption agencies like The Cradle can ensure the plan for your baby is handled responsibly, as our practices are closely monitored.

Every adoption looks different, though there are a few important steps. Your counselor will want to get to know you and discuss your options and your rights and responsibilities as someone considering adoption. You will also explore the options for choosing a family for your baby if you choose adoption, as well as explain the opportunities for future contact with your child and their adoptive parents. The Cradle educates on open adoption, in which the birth and adoptive families share identifying information and may have direct ongoing contact.

The Cradle is the only adoption agency in the United States with an on-site nursery. If you need temporary care for your baby while thinking over your decision, The Cradle Nursery is available to you, if you live in Illinois. If you live in Indiana your case worker will discuss temporary care options with you. The Nursery is staffed with experienced and licensed nurses, infant aides, and dedicated volunteers and is available at no cost.
